Why Creative Health?

Creative Health has significantly enriched my personal and professional life as a neurodiverse individual, it has been an accessible way of me processing information. From being a child, my communication style, especially at challenging times came most naturally through creative expression, comedy, drama and making things. I didn’t realise it at the time, but being creative was a therapeutic outlet for me and got me through when I needed it most. Arts has expanded my ability to think outside the box and tackle challenges. Creativity is imbedded in my practise and led me to incredible friendships, projects and communities.

Creative Health enhances my adaptability and resourcefulness and has been a key part of connecting with people in interesting memorable ways. My personal journey with grief has led me to pursue You’re Invited CIC with Amie Boylan. Celebrating 30 years of friendship we knew we needed to create a place that everyone will feel welcome and alive. Amie and I are determined to provide creative support, artistic opportunities and lived experiences that resonate with people’s hearts and minds. Creating a belonging space and community that improves overall health and wellbeing, where everyone gives themselves permission to show up for themselves unapologetically.

Why Creative Health?

Like the majority of humans throughout my life, I have faced varying personal barriers and challenges. I often rely on creativity and play to help me recover and grow. One of the most monumental challenging moments was the loss of my wonderful dad, which left me with a deep void of loss and emptiness. In those challenging times, I used humour to recount cherished memories, and creative writing to express the emotions building inside me. I would re-read his eulogy often to remind myself of all the little things that I loved and missed about him.

During lock down I founded a business that, amongst other things, offered handmade living eulogies, using multi-media art forms, to share with loved ones. It was during this time that I truly transformed my approach to grief and loss. The process of creating living eulogies helped me reframe my experiences, solidifying that art has the unique power to capture and express love for those still with us. I had the privilege of crafting living eulogies to share special moments for people around the world.

This experience made me realise that we all fear losing those we love, including losing parts of ourself, and art provides a perfect medium to convey what words alone sometimes cannot. After receiving tons of heartfelt feedback, often accompanied by happy tears, I knew that Creative Health was where my true focus should be.

Together with co-founder Katie, we launched “You’re Invited,” with a commitment to helping people celebrate today instead of regretting their yesterday…
